Important Note About Steel Walls

Gator Baskets are designed to revolutionize your storage experience—especially when mounted on steel walls in sheds or pole barns.

Steel walls come in many shapes and configurations. We recommend confirming the dimensions of your ribbed steel wall before selecting a Gator Basket. Ribbing depth, direction, and spacing can all impact how securely the basket attaches. Knowing your wall’s design ensures proper fit and function.

Direction Matters

Does your steel wall feature vertical or horizontal ribs? Is the surface large enough to accommodate the 2” x 3” Gator Hook? For best results, ensure at least 2” x 3” of flat surface area for the hook to grip securely. If possible, allow slightly more flat space for maximum strength. See example below:

*If you rely on a vertical rib to hang the basket, the weight capacity may vary due to limited magnetic surface contact. Add items gradually to confirm secure attachment.

Why Choose Gator?

You might see “Holds up to 35 lbs” and think, “Sure—but doesn’t every magnetic hook company say that?” Fair question. The difference is that most magnetic hooks are rated using pull force, which measures how hard you have to pull the magnet away from a surface. We use shear force—the real-world downward pressure applied when a hook is actually holding something like a tool, backpack, or cleaning supplies. That’s the difference between marketing and real performance.

Other brands also test on thick steel—sometimes over 1.5 inches thick. Most garages, sheds, and workshops use thinner steel, around 16-gauge (about 0.06 inches). That’s what we test on. When we say our basket holds 35 pounds, we mean it—on the type of surface you actually have.
